Jill Reading
Jill
grew up in Schuylkill Haven, and after graduation high school, she proceeded
on to study journalism at Penn State University State Park. During her
college years she grew away from God; however, by her senior year God had
recaptured her attention. With the help of some Christian friends, she
started to seek the life God intended for her.
Jill is now the Penn State campus Pastor.
Having been in the same situation that many students struggle with, she can
understand what they are going through and can more easily help them through
their struggles. Over spring break Jill will be going along with her
campus ministry and 13 students to San Diego, California, meeting up with
two other campus ministries along the way. Once in California, they will
travel from campus to campus evangelizing, spreading the gospel across
California.
“One really important thing for me is to
really have a deep revelation of God’s love, so that I can have a bigger
heart for other people and share Christ’s love for them. So, I feel like
I’ll be in ministry for the rest of my life on some level, and I’ll be in
campus ministry until God calls me to something else. I also want to
realize the simplicity of the gospel and be able to passionately share it
with college students and with others.”

Aloha
from Kona!
Hey! Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely winter weather you are
experiencing! I really do miss all that lovely snow, but am also learning to
be thankful for the warm toasty weather that I'm blessed with here!
Things have been so crazy busy here in Kona, we are now halfway through the
first quarter of DTS for 2008! It has been a huge learning time for me
since I took on a different position with DTS for this quarter. The last
time that I had staffed the DTS, I was working in a specific focus school,
Tribal Connections. Each quarter there are usually 4-5 different focus DTS
schools that run! So for that quarter, I worked with Tribal Connections,
worked one on one with the students mentoring them, and then leading them on
outreach. This time around, instead of working with one school and the
students, I am doing what is called the Quarter Point Team. Since we have
the different schools that runs, there is this team that oversees and gives
oversight to what is going on spiritually and logistically. I have been
working on this team since December doing a lot of the administrative work
and working in our DTS Office. There are two other guys that I work with on
this team; Sean Murphy who is
THE point person, and Jon who is his other assistant. It has been such
a joy for me to build relationship with the different departments on campus
and just working to make things happen! I've never really noticed my God
given gifting in administrative work until I started working with Sean :)
Although I don't have the privilege of working with students one on one and
leading outreach in this position, I still have the blessing of being able
to invest in the students! This position really allows me to connect
with them by sitting in on lectures and really pin pointing the leaders
amongst them to raise up to be leaders for the Lord and possible future
staff!
I'm very excited to be able to say that I will hold the same position the
next quarter as well, which starts on April the 3rd. I've already started
piecing things together for arrival day, and before I know it, our current
students will be on their way for outreach, and a whole new group will be
here ready to start!
Those students will head out for outreach the end of June, and students for
July quarter will arrive on the 3rd of July. For that quarter, I will go
back to staffing the DTS, working one on one with the students and leading
outreach. I've been meeting with the school leader for July and discussing
our outreach possibilities. I definitely have a lot to pray about, and huge
opportunities set before me right now for that outreach! I can for sure say
that the outreach will be at least 3 months. Could be more! I might end up
in South East Asia again, or I just might end up blazing trails in the
Amazon! I will have to let you know as I get closer to the date!
As for me, I am doing very well! I'm really loving serving the campus here,
and will be equally loving going on outreach again! I find that the Lord is
taking every opportunity to stretch me in my character and leadership, and I
receive it! Especially being in leadership, I'm just seeing God's character
and nature constantly being revealed, and am honoring him more and more and
seeing his abundance of grace that I have yet to learn!
Thanks so much for your prayers and consistent support you've shown me over
this past year! Looking forward to everything in this upcoming year :)
